The pace bowler has claimed 309 wickets in 71 appearances with an impressive average.
The Australian chief selector the selector has declared that captain Pat Cummins will have a crucial role in the upcoming England-Australia contest.
Rumors had circulated that Cummins might miss the series due to a stress fracture in his back that remained unresolved.
Initial reports from the squad suggested no official announcement had been made regarding his involvement, with the five-Test series scheduled to begin on 21 November in Perth.
The selector shared that the captain is progressing and felt positive about the likelihood of participating.
"We know that time is getting short and multiple considerations around that, not only his injury, but further aspects," Bailey remarked.
"The outlook is good. There's strong faith that he'll participate in a significant role. Ideally it's the first Test. Should that not happen, then we'll pick it up."
Past Concerns
He was sidelined the ODI and T20 games against India and New Zealand in the previous weeks after scans revealed a stress reaction in his back.
There is a track record of recurring issues, with recurrences in multiple past seasons leading to absences from several home seasons in a limited period.
Cummins stated he would be proactive in his approach in his comeback strategy to ensure his availability for the Ashes.
He mentioned that he did not know if the captain had resumed bowling as part of his comeback but admitted it was "becoming urgent" for him to be fit for the opener.
Backup Options
In case of absence, former captain Steve Smith will assume leadership.
Versatile player Green was excluded lately from the ODI lineup for their one-day international series against India as a precautionary measure because of an abdominal issue.
He labeled it as a "slight concern and confirmed that he'll feature in the Sheffield Shield, so will be "in a good place to resume bowling."
"Extensive planning has gone into building out the plan for him to be available for the first Test as an dual-role player," he elaborated.
"His involvement was limited to the starting games anyway. His aggressive style the willow in shorter formats, even if it just sets him back for 24 more hours, we opted to approach this more conservatively."
